More Response Volunteers step up

2020-04-26T09:38:59+01:00Sunday 26 April 2020|

Meet some of our latest Response Volunteers who have joined Walsall Healthcare from Walsall Council to “do their bit” for the wider community.

These volunteers usually work in the council’s leisure centres and have no experience of lending a hand in a hospital setting but they have really embraced their new roles.

Walsall Healthcare Volunteering lead Louise Mabley said they had taken on portering responsibilities within Walsall Manor Hospital.

She said: “We’re really pleased to be working in partnership with Walsall Council to bring in Response Volunteers in our hour of need during this pandemic.

“These volunteers have been helping with portering tasks and they told us they wanted to get involved to do their bit and help free up our staff so they can assist in other areas.  They have a strong sense of community which is fantastic to see.

“They were a little nervous and apprehensive before starting – understandable as they have had no experience of being in a hospital working environment. But once they got into it they really started to enjoy it.  They have also praised our staff for putting them at ease.”
