Mums-to-be, new parents and families are being invited to celebrate national Baby Week in Walsall later this month.
Visitors to Walsall Manor Hospital will be able to take a tour around the Midwifery-Led Unit (MLU), speak to the Infant Feeding Service and find out about the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit and Neonatal.
Community Midwives will also be on hand to pass on advice and information and answer questions at the free showcase event that is running outside Antenatal Clinic on Route 122, on Thursday 19 November between 10am and 2pm. They will be joined by Specialist Midwives who will also be on hand to talk about their services.
Baby Week brings together services to promote the best start in life, celebrating early childhood and raising awareness of the vital first five years.
Laura Parsons, Matron for Maternity Outpatients, said: “We’re looking forward to showcasing our services as part of Baby Week and are keen to talk to as many families as possible on the day.
“We are proud to be able to offer tours of our fantastic MLU where we have had lot of positive feedback from our families who describe it as a comfortable haven and have praised the Midwives and Maternity Support Workers there. We moved the MLU next to the hospital’s Maternity Unit in 2024 so more birth choices can be offered to a greater number of women. This means women and babies who may have complications as their labour and birth progress can have rapid access to staff who are able to support urgent care.
“Our Midwives will be happy to show people around the unit which offers one to one care in labour, three birth pool rooms with ensuites and reflexology to name just a few features.”
Laura added Walsall’s Family Hubs will also support the event, along with a raffle organised through Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s Well Wishers charity. Proceeds will be used to support maternity Services. Refreshments will also be available.
