Young adults using Walsall Manor Hospital can access a health and wellbeing service via their mobile phones.
The Positive Outcomes Project (POP) is a health and wellbeing service for young people aged 15–25 in Walsall. The project supports young adults to explore challenges together, including mental health and wellbeing, finances and employment, loneliness and isolation, and other issues that may be affecting them.
POP is co‑produced and designed by young adults, encouraging ownership, creativity and services that reflect young people’s needs.
POP currently hosts a pop‑up stand at Walsall Manor Hospital every Tuesday from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. This on‑site presence has helped reach young people who may not typically engage with community‑based services.
Following feedback from engagement sessions, a new text‑based service was introduced.
Garry Perry, Associate Director of Patient Voice (Experience) at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, said: “Based on feedback from the engagement sessions, a new text‑based access route is being introduced.
“Young people visiting Walsall Manor Hospital can now text ‘MANOR’ to connect directly with POP practitioners, Harv or Beth.
“This offers a discreet, quick and youth‑friendly way to request support or arrange a conversation during a follow‑up POP‑UP session.”
The introduction of the text service aims to:
- Increase accessibility for young people attending or visiting the hospital
- Provide immediate, low‑barrier emotional wellbeing support
- Offer continuity of contact beyond the hospital environment
- Identify young people interested in volunteering or longer‑term engagement opportunities
Garry added: “This initiative strengthens early support, reduces stigma around asking for help, and ensures young people are not missed at moments of need. It supports wider partnership aims around inclusion, prevention and youth voice.
“POP Wellbeing’s presence at Walsall Manor Hospital is helping us reach young people when they need support most. By introducing a simple text route and a regular POP‑UP on site, we are making it easier for young people to access help in a way that feels safe, friendly and on their terms.”
