Two Black Country NHS Trusts have been shortlisted for five HSJ Patient Safety Awards, recognising innovative work to improve patient safety, strengthen safety culture and deliver better outcomes for patients.
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust are celebrating multiple shortlistings in this year’s HSJ Patient Safety Awards.
The five shortlisted initiatives are:
- Developing a Positive Safety Culture Award – Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust: From Listening to Acting: Developing a Positive Safety Culture Through a Locally Led Approach to Patient Wellness Questions
- Digital Clinical Safety Initiative of the Year – The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust: Safer Care by Design – Our Digital BluEPRint for Transforming Patient Safety: The Digital Clinical Safety Model
- Improving Safety for Older People Initiative of the Year – Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust: Reducing Harm Through Timely Discharge: Improving Safety for Older People in Trauma & Orthopaedics
- Patient Safety Team of the Year – The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust: Bridging the Digital Divide to Deliver Safer Patient Care
- Surgical Care Safety Initiative of the Year – Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust: Reducing Length of Stay and Cost in Elective Lower Limb Arthroplasty

Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 28 September 2026 at Telford International Centre. The event recognises innovations that improve patient outcomes, as well as celebrating leadership, collaboration and technology systems that deliver safer care to all.
