“Warmth and kindness” gets mum Laura’s vote

A mum’s past experience of Walsall’s “friendly” maternity services was so good she decided to have her second baby here.

Insurance administrator Laura Bevan, 31 and her partner, cleaning business owner, Sam Bevan, 27 welcomed their new arrival into the world on 7 April. They haven’t yet decided on a name.

Laura gave birth to a healthy baby boy, weighing 7lb 1oz, via caesarean section at Walsall Manor Hospital.

The Wolverhampton couple are already parents to three-and-a-half-year-old Rory who was also born at Walsall Manor Hospital.

Mum Laura had nothing but praise for the service she received from maternity services and said:

“I chose to come here to give birth as my previous experience with my son Rory was so positive and it was no different this time. When I found out I was pregnant I was certain I wanted to have my baby here.”

She added: “Everyone has been really great. All the midwives and other maternity staff were really nice and friendly. They all gave the Black Country kind of warmth and kindness.

“My postnatal care has been amazing too from breastfeeding support to my general wellbeing.”

Dad Sam said: “It’s been a good experience for me as a dad too. I was made to feel welcome and all the staff put me at ease.”

The most excited for the new arrival though is new big brother Rory.

Laura said: “I told Rory I was pregnant when I was six weeks because I wanted him to start getting used to the idea of a new baby in our life and also get him excited about being a big brother.

“I think after a while he thought this baby was never going to come as nine months is a long time for a toddler. But when Sam went home and facetimed so Rory could see his little brother for the first time, Rory actually said ‘why is my brother crying?’ so we think he’ll settle into his role very quickly!”

Laura and baby will be leaving to go home today where they will now become a family of four.
