Baby Amelia makes it a day to remember

Congratulations  to Joanna Sucha and Miloslav Suchy whose daughter Amelia was the first baby to be born at Walsall Healthcare’s Midwifery-Led Unit this morning – the first day it re-opened for births!

Little Amelia arrived at 10am weighing 7 pounds and 12 ounces and is the couple’s third child.

Proud mum Joanna had a water birth – exactly the same as she did for her daughter Veronika who was also born at the unit six years ago.

The 38-year-old factory worker said: “I wanted to give birth here because it is a good, calm atmosphere and the midwives are fantastic.

“My first child Dominik, who is nine, was born at the hospital but I had Veronika here six years ago and it was such a good experience I wanted my latest baby to be born here. When my midwife told me it was re-opening for births I was so happy.

“I came here just after 8am today and was able to have the water birth I wanted. It all went so well.”

Joanna and her husband, 43, a warehouse worker, were hoping to go back to their Walsall home with their new arrival later today.

Midwife Louise Webster said: “Being new to MLU and to be part of Amelia’s birth today of all days when the unit has re-opened for births has been really special.”
