A memorial service for those who have experienced pregnancy and baby loss is being held as Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust joins the national focus.
Baby Loss Awareness Week runs from 9-15 October 2026 and gives anyone affected by such a loss an opportunity to reflect, remember and access support. Supported by Sands UK (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Charity), Baby Loss Awareness Week aims to drive improvements in policy and bereavement care for anyone affected by the death of a baby.
The week culminates in a global Wave of Light on Thursday 15 October where families across the world can light a candle at 7pm and leave it burning for at least one hour to remember all babies who have died too soon.
In Walsall, a memorial service is being held on Sunday 4 October 2026, 3pm, at Pelsall Community Centre in Station Road, organised by the Trust’s Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Team and Laura Atkinson, Specialist Bereavement Midwife.
Laura said: “The service offers a meaningful opportunity for families to come together to remember and celebrate the lives of babies who have died during pregnancy, at birth, or in infancy.
“Open to all bereaved families, regardless of when or where they experienced their loss, the service provides a peaceful and compassionate space for reflection, remembrance, and hope. For many, attending the service offers comfort, acknowledges the significance of their baby’s life, and reminds then that they are not alone in their grief.”
Reverend Linford Davis, Head of Spiritual, Pastoral and Religious Care (Chaplaincy), added: “Through readings, music and moments of quiet reflection, families are invited to honour their baby’s memory alongside others who understand the lasting impact of baby loss.
“The Trust is honoured to host this special event as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting bereaved families and ensuring that every baby is remembered with dignity, love and respect. “
Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishers charity is providing small gifts for each family that attends on the day.
The memorial service is open to those with faith and those without. Please email wht.chaplaincy@nhs.net for more information.
