They came, they scored, they raised hundreds of pounds for Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishers charity, netting a fundraising win.
Viral content creators Crouchy FC, managed by the People’s Pundit youtuber, teamed up to play a charity football match against Inter Legends FC at Walsall’s Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium, home of the Saddlers, last Sunday.
And there were plenty of goals to cheer with the final score 13-5 and Inter legends FC claiming victory. But the real winner was the charity which will be using the £262, doubled to £524 by Jack Whiting, Inter Legends FC founder, for Walsall Manor Hospital’s new Dementia Unit.
Danny Aarons, known for his Fifa-related content, was among the internet stars taking part who included Pie Face and Jensen Not Button, and was a real hit with cheering supporters.
He said: “We’ve all had a great time, despite being beaten, and it’s a good result for the charity.”
Ahead of the game Tyler D’Cruz, former Reading City player, said the Legends were feeling confident they would come away with the win.
“It’s all about charity at the end of the day though and that’s why we’re all here,” he said.
Jack, whose side included So Solid Crew’s MC Harvey, said there had been plenty of banter between the teams.
“It was never in doubt we were going to win,” he joked. “We were the better side. But in all seriousness, it’s just so good to do something like this for charity. It’s been a great afternoon.”
Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, said she wanted to thank everyone taking part, as well as Well Wishers volunteers who helped out at the match.
“I had been quite cheeky in contacting Jack to ask if Well Wishers could be considered as the charity to benefit and he agreed, so thank you Jack and the rest of the players.
“It was a fun afternoon, and we know younger visitors in particular loved seeing their favourite internet stars.”
