Young patients in Walsall Children’s Emergency Department are benefiting from new toys and books thanks to fundraising by Lloyds Banking Group.

The initiative was organised by Lloyds Banking Group Team Manager Mark Dawes who, alongside colleagues, took part in a tombola and Grand National–themed event, raising £780.

Lloyds Banking Group then matched the total, doubling the donation so the Children’s Ward at Walsall Manor Hospital could also benefit

The funds have been used to buy a variety of items to support and distract children during their hospital visit, including fidget toys, books, games and sensory lights.

Every cubicle in the Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) has now been equipped with a sensory light, helping to comfort children during procedures such as blood tests or cannula insertion.

As part of the visit, Mark Dawes and Jigs Patel, Complaints Manager from Lloyds Banking Group, were given a tour of the Paediatric Assessment Unit and Paediatric Emergency Department to see the impact of the donation first-hand.

Mark said: “Our colleagues were brilliant in coming together and supporting this fundraising appeal. Lloyds then matched the amount raised, which doubled our donation and made a real difference.

“This cause is close to home for me. I was born and bred in Walsall, and both of my boys have previously received great care at this hospital. It has been fantastic to see first-hand the difference that donations like this can make for young patients and their families.”

Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager at Well Wishers, said: “We’re incredibly grateful to Lloyds Banking Group and their colleagues for their generosity and enthusiasm.

“The funds raised have allowed us to provide simple but meaningful resources that help reduce anxiety and make a real difference to children during what can be a stressful time

“Support like this shows the power of community fundraising and the positive impact it can have on patient care.”
