Volunteers with a warm smile, friendly approach and good organisational skills are being sought by Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishers charity to help run its Fundraising Hub.
The busy hub, in the main atrium of Walsall Manor Hospital, sells second hand books, jigsaws and good quality clothes and shoes as well as new knitted baby clothes and blankets, along with toys and bric a brac.
The charity is blessed with a small group of dedicated volunteers who already help the Fundraising Team by taking care of the shop element of the hub but Well Wishers needs some additional helping hands.
Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, and Andrew Rice, Head of Patient Voice who manages Volunteering Services, are teaming up to run a Fundraising Hub recruitment day on Monday 11 May. And potential volunteers are being encouraged to make an application ahead of this day.
Georgie said: “We’re so proud of the hub and how it has grown over the last few years – raising more than £60,000 annually to support our patients and staff in ways above and beyond what the NHS can provide.
“We have some fantastic volunteers working in there already who have helped us make the hub such a success and they are invaluable to us. But we want to expand our numbers so we can ensure we have volunteers every single day to cover the hub’s opening hours of 9.30am-4.30pm.
“This recruitment day will enable people to meet the team, have a look at the hub and talk to Volunteering Services about the role and we’re looking forward to meeting and greeting new faces.”
Andrew added: “Volunteers are vital to the NHS and they make a meaningful difference with every hour of support they offer.
“Fundraising Hub volunteers will be playing an important role in supporting Well Wishers charity by helping to raise vital funds that enhance patient care and experience across the hospital and our community services such as Goscote Hospice.
“We need people to support day‑to‑day shop activity, assist customers and donors, and help create a welcoming environment for patients, visitors, staff and supporters. The hub is a busy environment, but it is also such a warm and friendly place to be and our existing volunteers who work there absolutely love it!”
Charlotte Cox is one of the hub’s volunteers. She said: “Volunteering is the perfect way to help others, make a difference to the Well Wishers charity, meet new people, chat to the customers and have a sense of purpose for yourself that you are giving back and making a difference.”
Anyone interested in becoming a Fundraising Hub volunteer is asked to fill out the online application form Well Wishers Recruitment Day and be available to attend the 11 May recruitment day event at the Manor Hospital at the time they are given.
Subject to the relevant checks, they should be able to start in their new roles within a month.
