Hospital Trusts in Walsall and Wolverhampton will be celebrating the NHS’s 77th birthday in style.

Summer fairs have been organised at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust to mark the day on Friday 4 July.

The NHS was established on July 5, 1948. It has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of each successive generation, with milestones like the world’s first liver transplant in 1987 and rapid whole genome sequencing for seriously ill babies and children.

At Walsall Manor Hospital there will be a selection of market stalls in the main atrium from 9am until 5pm.

Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, said: “We have a jam-packed day of activities planned.

“At 10am there is a Neonatal v Maternity Well Wishers bake off so come and see the wonderful cakes and sweet treats they will have on offer.

“Pelsall Ladies Choir will be coming to sing at 10.30am so that is another treat for everyone.

“We are really looking forward to it.”

The birthday celebration event at New Cross Hospital will be held in the marquee outside the Emergency Department from 10am.

Visitors can have a go on a 12ft inflatable dart board with prizes to be won and Porter Steve Baxter will entertain with his unrideable bike.

Amanda Winwood, Charity Development Manager at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, said: “We are really excited for our summer fair extravaganza.

“We have our craft stalls selling their goodies, we have a DJ who will be playing summer tunes and our resident magician Steve Baxter will be wheeling out his popular, unrideable bike.

“There are also fun games planned such as inflatable dart football, giant noughts and crosses, and tin can alley.

“So come on down and celebrate with us.”
