From a special Bake-Off competition to afternoon teas, singers and a Children’s Ward “street” party – the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be celebrated in style at Walsall Manor Hospital and in its community services.

Well Wishers, the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust charity, is supporting a host of activities to help patients and staff to mark the Monarch’s milestone of 70 years’ ‘service to the people of the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth.

Special events kick off this Wednesday 1 June with an outdoor market on the grassed area near to the hospital’s main entrance with stalls including perfume, make-up, jewellery, candles, jubilee goodies and lots more. The market will run from 10am – 4pm.

Later that day staff across the hospital and its community services will be treated to an afternoon tea and singing group Sounds Familiar will be in the main atrium of the Manor from 2pm to 3pm with a medley of songs that will be bound to win the Royal seal of approval.

Staff will also have the chance to prove they are the culinary Queen – or King – in a Bake-Off contest which is being judged at 10.30am on 1 June. Extra points will no doubt be awarded for those producing Monarch-themed masterpieces!

On Thursday 2 June, patients will be treated to a regal lunch and on Friday, Royal cup cakes will be delivered across the wards.

Young patients on the Children’s Ward have been busy taking part in a colouring competition and will be holding their own version of a street party on Sunday 5 June.

A fundraising raffle to win prize hampers fit for a Queen has already got underway with the winners being drawn next Monday 6 June.

Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “It’s a really special anniversary and we want to make sure our patients and staff can join in with the celebrations.

“We think the next few days will be full of fun, laughter and some magical memories and we can’t wait to get our Platinum Jubilee party started.”

Remember to share your jubilee photos with us – perhaps your event could also raise money for our Well Wishers charity which buys items above and beyond what the NHS is able to provide. Send your photos to Georgie.westley@walsallhealthcare.nhs.uk
