Members of Walsall Breast Cancer Support Group have bought 160 digital thermometers to be used by patients undergoing chemotherapy at the Manor Hospital.

The group, which meets at Bloxwich Golf Club on the first Wednesday evening of every month, regularly raises funds to help and support local women who are coping with a diagnosis of breast cancer and is now entering its 34th year.

As well as offering women the chance to meet other patients to share their experiences, a group of volunteers also visit breast cancer patients in hospital; giving them a chance to discuss any fears or questions and helping to build up their confidence as they go through their journey.

Volunteer Denise Moorhouse said: “We know from our own experience, along with feedback from patients, that digital thermometers are really useful for helping patients to keep an eye on their temperature so – thanks to Midcounties Co-Operative – we were able to buy 148 at cost price. I work for Midcounties Pharmacy and when I explained what we wanted to do we were given this additional boost which is fantastic.”
