Former Royal Marines Commando Davie Carns has teamed up with NHS organisations in Walsall to stage a family fun day this Saturday (14 July) featuring retro sports and activities suitable for all abilities.

As part of the NHS 70th birthday celebrations, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, Dudley and Walsall Mental Health Partnership Trust and Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group have joined forces to stage a staff It’s A Knockout challenge at Walsall Arboretum

In addition, Davie, who created Lead The Way Fitness to increase physical activity opportunities for young people across the region, has kindly agreed to provide a penalty shoot-out, coconut shy, space hoppers, bean bag ladder challenge, egg and spoon race and a host of other activities for the big day.

Davie works with ex forces personnel alongside a pool of instructors to act as mentors on his health and fitness projects across the region.

He said: “I really want to be part of this fun day which promises to be an affordable day out for all the family.

“The retro games and activities I have agreed to set up are inclusive and can be enjoyed by people of all abilities. I am proud to be associated with this event which continues the celebration of the 70thbirthday of the NHS – something that we all hold dear.”

The family fun day will take place from 10am until 3pm and entry is just £1 per visitor, with proceeds going towards Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s charity Well Wishers.

There will be charges for the activities.

Food and drink will also be on sale as provided by Olivia’s Diner.

We’ve teamed up with Bizz Buzz Events to put on It’s A Knockout which will feature 12 games in total, split over the day with a break in the middle.

During the event the Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Marco Longhi will present the Arboretum with a tree on behalf of Walsall NHS, to commemorate its 70th birthday. The tree will then be planted in the Arboretum’s orchard in the autumn.

Plenty of free parking will be available.

There will also be information stands and craft stalls on the day.
