A Walsall couple have held a charity fundraiser to give back to the Neonatal Unit where both of their daughters received life‑saving care.

Hollie and Chloe Kendall were each cared for on Walsall’s Neonatal Unit after being born prematurely.

Hollie was born at 27 weeks in January 2012, weighing 2lb 1oz. Chloe was born at 26 weeks and weighed just 1lb 9oz.

Mum Emma Kendall said she wanted to hold a raffle to raise money as a way of saying thank you for the exceptional support her family received.

The raffle raised £252 for the unit.

She said: “Our journey with Neonatal began back in January 2012 when our daughter Hollie was born. She was the youngest baby they had on the unit at the time and we stayed there until April.

“Then our family went through a tough time with my husband Craig having stomach cancer. In August 2022 our youngest daughter Chloe was born at 26 weeks, and again we were cared for on the Neonatal Unit at Walsall, after a week at Birmingham Women’s Hospital.

“The staff were absolutely incredible both times. I cannot thank them enough. They treated us like family, and the love and support we were given was outstanding.

“I can never thank them enough for saving both our girls, but I want to carry on donating as much as I can going forward.”

Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Emma, Craig and their family for their generosity and for choosing to give back in such a meaningful way. Their fundraising will directly support babies and parents who rely on our Neonatal Unit every day.”
