When dance teacher and NHS Support Medical Secretary Jenny Brown waltzed into work at Walsall Manor Hospital today, she had no idea her colleagues would surprise her with gifts for her 80th birthday.

And she was over the moon to receive flowers and a special birthday cake from them.

Jenny, who has worked for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust for the last 16 years, and at Bloxwich Hospital for five years prior to that, is in the diabetes and endocrinology service where her role sees her preparing clinical letters, supporting Consultants and answering patient calls.

The great grandmother is proud to still be working at the age of 80 and credits her “fantastic team” with making her job so enjoyable.

“I work three days a week now and I’ve had a tough year as my husband Baz, 86, died in May this year,” said Jenny who teaches ballroom and Latin dancing, a skill that she has won prizes for over the years.

“I am grieving, obviously, but they have helped me through this difficult time and are fantastic. I always look forward to coming into work and it’s because I work with such great people.  I could have retired more than 20 years ago, as many do, but I get so much out of continuing to work and supporting my team.”
