A former breast cancer patient has returned to Walsall Manor Hospital with a generous donation to thank staff for saving her life.

Jane Pittam and her friend Lyndsey Franklin held an all-day charity event and raised £1,830 for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s Breast Care Unit.

Hosted in The Carrington Rock n Roll Club based in Wednesbury, the fundraiser included lots of DJs, bands (Andy’s Percell, James Steel, Billy Jenkinson), raffles and a tombola.

The grandmother-of-three, who lives in Wednesbury, said: “I was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2022.

“It was a shock to me as I went for a routine mammogram and didn’t think anything of it. The only thing I had at the time was a throat infection, but I didn’t think that would be a symptom. Then three days later I got a call to return.

“Despite the diagnosis, I am now currently in remission. I feel fantastic, I have come a long way. It’s like winning the lottery without money.

“I am so grateful for all the staff here and I mean everyone, from Consultants to the cleaners, everyone has made my experience so positive.”

Jayne Kanwar, Macmillan Advanced Nurse Practitioner – Breast Care said: “We are so appreciative of this donation, especially when Jane has had to deal with a lot herself.

“We will use these funds to improve the patient journey. For example, we are now able to give all ladies a free bra to use whether that is a mastectomy bra, first fit or reconstruction.”

Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, added: “We know the big impact that fundraisers can make on our patients’ experience.

“Thank you to Jane and Lyndsey for organising this event and making an incredible donation. A massive thank you also to all those who attended the event too, your support to the cause doesn’t go unnoticed.”
