A range of speakers, workshops covering a host of topics and the chance for service users to share their experiences are all lined up for a maternity and neonatal conference in the Black Country next month.

Organised by the Black Country and West Birmingham Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS), the event will be attended by maternity and neonatal staff, people who have used these services and interested professionals.

It is the first major, face to face event that the LMNS has held since the COVID-19 pandemic and is being supported by Maternity Voices Partnerships (MVPs) across the LMNS.

Speakers lined up are Sascha Wells-Munro OBE, Deputy Chief Midwifery Officer (Quality Improvement and Safety) NHS England, Sally Roberts, LMNS Senior Responsible Officer and Chief Nursing Officer, Black Country Integrated Care Board, Equality and Diversity Leads. It takes place on Wednesday 19 October at The Poundland Bescot Stadium in Walsall.

Sally Roberts said: “We’re looking forward to taking time away from our workplaces to focus solely on the challenges and opportunities we have within our maternity and neonatal services – from the perspective of our staff who work in them as well as the people who use them.

“We work closely with our service users to shape future provision so that it truly meets the needs of our many communities across the Black Country and West Birmingham and to enhance our existing services. This engagement has never been more important and we want to further build relationships to continue the work we already have underway as well as identify other priorities.

“The conference promises to be an action-packed session in which I’m sure we’ll all learn a lot. I’d like to thank Sascha and our other speakers for agreeing to support us, along with our MVPs, and feel confident that all attendees will find it a worthwhile event.”

Workshops on the day include Shared Learning, the 15 Steps Challenge, Support for Refugees, Asylum Seekers and those with no recourse to Public Funds and Pelvic Health Services.
