It promises to be another knockout event – after a two-year absence!

A fundraising boxing match staged by Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishers charity is making a welcome return in October this year. And tickets have gone on sale today.

The popular event, run in partnership with local sporting hero Martin Gethin, former British Lightweight Champion, IBF Super Lightweight Champion and patron of the charity, is set for Friday 14 October at Rushall Labour Club.

This year’s fundraiser will focus on Goscote Hospice, housed at the Walsall Palliative Care Centre. The hospice now sits under the Well Wishers charity which serves the Manor Hospital and its Community Services.

Martin Gethin, said: “We’re really looking forward to the charity boxing event each year and as we haven’t been able to run one since 2019 the blood is definitely pumping among our amateur boxers for 2022!

“It’s such a great event and this is the fifth one we’ve put on. We’ve raised more than £2,000 previously and after taking a break for a while it would be brilliant to smash that amount this year. We’re raising money for Goscote Hospice, Walsall, as we’ve seen and heard some of the wonderful support the charity provides – particularly meeting the wishes of patients receiving end of life care.”

Georgie added: “We can’t wait for the return of the Well Wishers charity boxing match.

“It’s always a fantastic night out and we’ve previously raised thousands of pounds for services to better support our patients living with dementia.”

Tickets are just £15 each to include a buffet and can be bought at the Fundraising Hub in the main atrium of Walsall Manor Hospital between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
