A charity makeover for the Discharge Lounge

Patients who are well enough to leave Walsall Manor Hospital and go home are able to make themselves much more comfortable while they wait for medication and transport – thanks to a makeover in its Discharge Lounge.

Donations made through Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s Well Wishers charity have seen a new settee, tablecloths and  tea and coffee making facilities within the Discharge Lounge creating a much more homely waiting environment.

Sister Rachel Dawson said: “These all-important touches have made a real difference to the Discharge Lounge and have transformed it into a much more homely environment for our patients.

“We’re really grateful to Well Wishers for funding these items and helping to enhance our patients’ experience in this way.”

Patients Mary Boden and Sheila Swain gave the Discharge Lounge a thumbs up when they had to use it.

They said: “It’s nice to be able to sit on the settee if you want to and everyone seems very comfortable waiting here.”

Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, added: “We have managed to raise money to give the Discharge Lounge a bit of a makeover thanks to items sold from our Purple Hub. It all adds up and we managed to hand over £1,000 to purchase these items. Thank you to everyone who has supported Well Wishers in this way.”
