Did you know that Walsall is ranked third worst in the country for the amount of people in the area living with diabetes?

With just over 8% of the population affected, Walsall’s healthcare professionals are working hard to educate the public and prevent this avoidable condition, particularly as it’s expected to get worse – experts have predicated 10.9% of the Walsall population will be diabetic by 2030.

As part of Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week, running from 1 – 7 April 2019, we’ll be sharing lots of helpful information including tips for healthy eating and weight management plus where to get advice should you have any real concerns.

And if you’re not aware of how important it is to manage the condition effectively, we’ll be highlighting the devastating impact diabetes can have on your feet, eyes and kidneys and how poor management of the condition can lead to serious complications such as foot amputation and loss of vision.

Want to know how to avoid such awful outcomes? Look out this week across Facebook and Twitter (@WalsallHCareNHS) for details of the warning signs and patients Alan and Stuart who will be sharing their own experiences of diabetic foot care.

Find out if you’re at risk by using the Diabetes UK Risk Calculator and should you have any concerns, please contact your local GP.
