“My phone has never been so busy with calls and messages – everyone has been saying congratulations and wishing Hendrik all the best for his future.”
Zoe Christoffersen is bursting with pride after her son Hendrik was one of the lucky seven up and coming young stars chosen to form Simon Cowell’s latest boy band December 10.
And Zoe, who works at Walsall Manor Hospital as a Family and Carers’ Support Officer, can finally celebrate his success after months of having to keep quiet about her son’s appearance on The Next Act, the Netflix docuseries charting the music mogul’s efforts to create the next global sensation.
“This whole process started back in August 2024 when Hendrik first auditioned and he went out to Miami to work with Simon’s team in February this year before us finding out he was successful in April this year,” explained Zoe, herself a former professional vocalist.
“So, we’ve had to keep everything to ourselves for months and months, signing Non-Disclosure Agreements and waiting patiently for the series to air. When Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s Communications Team wrote a piece about Hendrik last week the messages we had were so lovely with everyone wishing him well and excitedly looking forward to watching the show.
“It was fantastic when December 10 were revealed and I could be open with everyone that Hendrik had made the band. We are all so proud of him and want him to make the most of what is a once in a lifetime opportunity now.”
Zoe and husband John have met the parents of singer/songwriter Hendrik’s fellow bandmates – Cruz Lee-Ojo, Sean Hayden, Danny Bretherton, Nicolas Alves, John Fadare and Josh Olliver – and is reassured they will be well supported.
“It sounds corny, but all the members of the band are like a family already, they do love each other. And when we met Simon Cowell he was lovely too, as were all the people he has working on his team. I’ve had so many calls and messages since the show aired, even from one of Hendrik’s old primary school teachers saying she knew he was going to make it one day, and we really appreciate everyone’s kindness and best wishes for the future.”
Hendrik, who has been working at Nando’s, will be able to spend Christmas at the family home too which is another bonus said Zoe.
“Who knows what the future holds now – he needs to enjoy every minute!”
The band has already signed with EMI/Universal and first track, a cover of NSYNC’s Bye, Bye, Bye, was released on YouTube yesterday (Monday 15 December). Follow the band and support Hendrik via hendrikdecember10 on Instagram and tiktok.
