Nurses, Doctors, Allied Health Professionals and Support Services staff were among the proud winners of the first Caring for All Awards hosted by The Royal Wolverhampton and Walsall Healthcare NHS Trusts – with soul superstar Beverley Knight adding her personal thanks for their efforts.
A glittering ceremony, which took place at The Willows in Willenhall, last night (Tuesday 4 November) was attended by around 300 staff members with finalists nominated by colleagues and patients alongside their families and carers.
Host Simon Evans, Group Deputy Chief Executive and Group Chief Strategy Officer, welcomed staff while steel pan drummer Jamani Stewart entertained guests as they arrived at the venue.
The 17 award categories included Rising Star Award, Equality Diversity and Inclusion Award and a Sustainability Award, while the Sister Dora and Royal Awards enabled the public to show their gratitude for the care they or a loved one had received.
Joe Chadwick-Bell, Group Chief Executive, said: “I am incredibly proud to honour the dedication of staff who make a huge difference to the lives of patients and their loved ones.
“You are all role models – you are kind, inclusive, and professional. Thank you for being so committed, so enthusiastic, and for your ongoing resilience.”
The evening was funded by The Walsall Hospital Company Plc, Fleet Scheme and the Trusts’ two charities – Well Wishers (Walsall) and Your RWTC (RWT).
The charities hosted a raffle throughout the night which raised an additional £1200 for items over and above what the NHS can provide.
Guests were thrilled when a surprise appearance was made by music legend Beverley Knight.
She said “It’s been an absolute pleasure to be here. You all do such incredible work – putting yourselves out there to help people like me and my family.
“You directly impacted my life when my mum because seriously ill with COVID-19. You responded and helped my mum and I’m so grateful. From the bottom of my heart – thank you for everything you do.”
