Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is proud to announce it has been officially recognised as a Menopause Friendly Accredited Employer – a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of its workforce.

This is the only independent, industry-recognised mark of excellence for menopause in the workplace.

To achieve accreditation, Walsall Healthcare was assessed by an independent panel and had to demonstrate evidence and effectiveness across five key areas: culture, policies and practices, training, engagement, and the working environment.

A range of initiatives were developed to meet these standards, including staff education sessions, manager training, clear guidance and policies, menopause cafés and peer support networks. These efforts not only raise awareness but also foster open conversations and ensure colleagues feel supported and empowered throughout.

This work was supported by funding from Well Wishers charity (Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust) and Your RWTC (The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust), which enabled the training of menopause advocates. Unison Walsall Healthcare Branch also supports ongoing work by providing free period products for staff.

Joe Chadwick-Bell, Group Chief Executive, said: “This accreditation is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the dedication and passion of our staff who have driven this work forward.

“Creating a menopause-friendly workplace isn’t just about policies – it’s about culture, understanding and listening to what colleagues need. I’m incredibly proud of the teams who’ve championed this from the ground up, and as a Trust, we remain committed to supporting every colleague through all stages of their working life.”

Tracy Nicholls, Staff Health and Wellbeing Clinical Manager, added: “We’re absolutely delighted to receive this accreditation. It reflects the genuine commitment we’ve made to creating a safe, open and supportive environment for all our staff.

“Menopause can have a significant impact on women’s working lives, and we want to make sure no one feels they have to suffer in silence. This is about removing stigma, raising awareness and putting the right support in place.”

The Menopause Friendly Accreditation was established by Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace in 2020 to certify high standards and proven practices that embrace menopause in the workplace. To find out more, visit  www.menopausefriendly.co.uk
