Walsall families are being offered support with one of early childhood’s biggest milestones—toilet training—through a series of free workshops this summer.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s Health Visiting and School Nurse Service has organised free toilet training workshops throughout July and August.
The workshops are for families and carers of children aged 0–5.
Susan Hems, 0–19 Digital Lead at the Trust, said: “Toilet training is a big milestone in a child’s development.
“It can be a frustrating time for parents and carers, who may feel under a lot of pressure to get their child toilet-trained.
“Remember that every child is different and will learn skills at their own pace. Most children will learn this skill in their own time. It is important to stay calm and be patient.
“We hope these workshops are beneficial for everyone who attends.”
The workshop will explore:
- What is toilet training and the management
- Advice and support
- Developing physical skills
- Routines
- Toileting patterns
- Common problems during toilet training
They will be run:
31 July, 10.30am-12pm, North Family Hub, 275 Blakenhall Lane, Walsall
5 August, 10.30am-12pm, Brownhills Community Centre
13 August, 10.30am-12pm Willenhall Chart, Willenhall
21 August, 10.30am-12pm Frank F.Beechdale Centre, Bloxwich
They are a new initiative as part of the Summer Passport Programme in collaboration with Walsall Family Hubs.
The Summer Passport Programme aims to provide a fun and educational experience that will support children’s growth and development, preparing them for their new school in September.
