Many parents are anxious about safe sleeping and the possibility of a sudden infant death. However, when a family have suffered an unexpected infant death, it is inevitable the next pregnancy and the months following the birth of their new infant will create a time of anxiety.
Research has suggested that professional support during this period can assist in alleviating fears and worries and can be of immense value in ensuring appropriate care for the new baby (Care of the Next Infant, 2013).
CONI (Care of Next Infant) is a supportive programme offered by the Health Visiting service to parents who have experienced an unexpected death of a child less than two years of age and are undergoing a subsequent pregnancy. The CONI programme aims to help parents work through some of their fears and anxieties during the new pregnancy and the first year after birth.
CONI PLUS Programme is offered to parents who have a vulnerable infant or who are suffering from anxiety due to a specific reason
