Ophthalmology

The Ophthalmology department provides a general outpatient service that covers common problems related to cataract, macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and oculoplastic conditions.

Special services include neonatal screening and paediatric/adult ocular motility problems. The service includes day case cataract surgery, laser procedures (excluding refractive corrections) and minor operations. The service is supported by our Orthoptics department.

The service sees and cares for patients with:

  • Cataracts

  • Diabetic Retinopathy

  • Glaucoma

  • Macular degeneration

  • Paediatric Ophthalmology conditions

  • Thyroid eye disease

The service also provides:

  • Contact lenses

  • Low vision aids

  • Neonatal screening

  • An Oculoplastic service

  • Orthoptics

  • Visual field tests

Outpatient clinics generally operate between the hours of 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday
