Learning disabilities

This service is in place to assist people with Learning Disabilities within the Borough of Walsall in successfully accessing health services appropriately, through primary, secondary, tertiary and community services.

The PAMHS team will provide a single point of liaison to facilitate a seamless journey through health care systems for the individual with a learning disability and their carer(s). PAMHS will provide a flexible and responsive service to individuals with a learning disability and their carers:

  • Provision of personalised care and support for people with a learning disability
  • To promote equality and the making of ‘reasonable adjustments’ to the way in which health services are delivered to people with learning disabilities
  • To provide personalised care and support for People With a Learning Disability to obtain clinical appointments, ensure that the appointment is appropriate i.e. requesting a longer than normal slot if this is required and attend the appointment if other support mechanisms are unable to attend.
  • To ensure ‘reasonable adjustments’ are met at the clinical appointment i.e. not using jargon or lengthy words and facilitating Makaton*.

The service will be provided between Mondays to Friday 8.30am – 5pm
(Hours of work can be flexible to meet needs of the service)

There is no arrangement in place for weekend and evening cover.
