Vascular

Veins and arteries carry blood throughout the body, providing every living cell with a rich supply of oxygen. Our vascular consultants see and care for patients with a variety of vascular conditions, both arterial and venous.

Services are provided by a team of three consultant vascular surgeons, a specialist nurse, two podiatrists, an interventional radiologist and a technician. The service also works closely with the orthotics department who assist vascular patients.

Daily vascular clinics are led by consultant vascular surgeons and both open and less-invasive intra-luminal surgery is also provided. The service also has links with the Transient Ischemic Attacks (TIA) service (TIAs are also informally known as ‘mini-strokes’), and provides a carotid endarterectomy if indicated, in conjunction with the physicians.

In the community setting, the service also works closely with the lymphoedema service and provides assistance with ulcer management alongside a Tissue Viability nurse.

Clinics occur daily, Monday to Friday. A consultant is on call for emergency treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
