Learning disabilities
The Darzi Report (2024) identified,
There are particularly severe disparities in learning disabilities,
- only 4 in 20 people will see their 65th birthday
- People with a learning disability are twice as likely to die from preventable causes
- four times as likely to die from treatable causes
There are multiple barriers that prevent people with learning disabilities from accessing the care that they need.
The Learning Disability nurses are in place within the Trust to provide support and guidance for patients and staff to enable people with learning disabilities to access the health care they require.
The learning disability service offers an open referral system, and will take referrals from staff, patients, carers or family members.
The service provides support with,
- Making reasonable adjustments
- Communication needs
- Guidance on the Mental Capacity Act 2005
- Guidance on the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
The Team works Monday to Friday 9am-5pm (excluding bank holidays)
