Runners and walkers will be on starters’ orders to raise cash for borough patients this Sunday when they take part in the Walsall Rotary Club Fun Run.
Staff from Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust from a host of services including Pharmacy, Health Visiting and Paediatrics, are taking part in the annual event at Walsall Arboretum to boost funds for the Well Wishers charity which supports patients in both the community and the Manor Hospital. Some have family and friends joining them too.
The event starts at 11am on Sunday 24 September 2017 and there’s a 10k run or a 5k run and a 3k walk option with trophies provided by the Rotary Club for the winners, as well as a cash prize for the 10k race winner and medals for all the runners. A team trophy is also up for grabs for teams which enter the 10k or 5k runs. Children can also take part with a trophy awarded for the best fancy dress costume, making it a fun event for all the family.
Morrisons in Walsall has kindly provided Walsall Healthcare with vouchers for the Well Wishers’ participants who are first past the post in the 10k, 5k and 3k courses.
Georgie Westley, the Trust’s Fundraising Manager, said: “People have been busy collecting sponsorship for Sunday’s event and we want to raise as much money as possible for Well Wishers which pays for items over and above what the NHS can provide and improves patients’ experience.
“The charity has helped fund a revamp of the sensory room on the Ward 21 Paediatric Assessment Unit, purchased active birthing beds and maternity monitoring equipment. And money has been raised for patients with dementia.
“We’re just hoping the weather stays dry for us and are looking forward to a sea of blue Well Wishers T shirts working its way through the arboretum!”
