Our service supports children and young people with medical needs and/or disabilities. We can work with other health professionals who are caring for your child to ensure that the appropriate information is shared with your child’s school so that they receive the support and care that they need whilst in school. If your child needs a care plan in school, to support their medical needs then the school nurse can work with the health professionals who are treating your child to ensure this is in place. We will only share information about your child’s health with non-health professionals if we have your permission to do so.
There is statutory guidance for schools as to how they should work together with parents/carer and health professionals to support pupils with medical needs. Our service provides training for school staff about supporting children with medical needs. Each school should have a member of staff who has attended this training.
