Rhematology

What we do

The Rheumatology service has two consultants and clinical nurse specialists who treat a wide range of inflammatory conditions associated with the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue disorders. The service offers a range of specialist clinics, including Early Arthritis clinics, and a range of treatments, including infusions and various injections, many of which are performed on the Medical Day Case Unit or in the Outpatient Department.

The rheumatology team has strong links with primary care providers and services such as the falls prevention programme based at Dartmouth House. The team also provides an expert patient programme which can be accessed by patients with long-term conditions, and works alongside voluntary services such as the hospital's patient support group and national charity Arthritis Research UK.

We see and care for patients with:

  • Ankylosis spondylitis
  • Autoimmune rheumatic diseases
  • Back pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Connective tissue disorders
  • Inflammatory Arthritis/ Early Arthritis
  • Osteoarthritis
