What we do
The Respiratory Nurse Team offers an inpatient service where respiratory patients on the wards can be referred for inhaler technique, disease management/education, oxygen assessment and nebuliser assessment.
As a department we try to expedite early discharge with support and advice at home. We also arrange educational visits for patients who have been prescribed oxygen at home. We have close links with the Clinical Measurement Unit and supervise and educate on the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme. The Lung Cancer service is supported by a multidisciplinary team (MDT) that meet weekly to discuss patients with suspected or confirmed lung malignancy. We offer a full diagnostic service often initiated through our rapid access clinics including Respiratory Physiology, CT scan, Bronchoscopy and CT guided lung lesion biopsy.
We see and care for patients with:
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Interstetial lung diseases, e.g. Pulmonary Fibrosis or Sarcoidosis
Mesothelioma (Malignancy of the Pleura - Lung)
Sleep respiratory disorders
Suspected or confirmed Lung Cancer
