A midwifery recruitment event proved a hit with 12 potential recruits receiving conditional offers of employment with Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.
The event, held earlier this month, was aimed at showcasing the development opportunities available to midwives, give them a chance to see the department and speak to the Trust’s specialist midwives and staff from innovative services such as perinatal mental health and health in pregnancy.
Nicola Wenlock, Divisional Director of Midwifery, Gynaecology and Sexual Health, said: “We’re really pleased with how the day went as we had a lot of interest from midwives keen to join us here in Walsall.
“We were able to interview candidates on the day, carry out pre-employment checks and make conditional job offers to a dozen midwives which is fantastic. These new midwives will be joining us over the next few months.
“We were also very encouraged that so many want to work in Walsall. One midwife told us she had read through our recent CQC inspection report and wanted to be part of our team as we continue to embed improvements that enhance the experience of our women, their families and carers. This feedback is so important to us because while we know that we still have challenges to address in maternity services there are clear signs that we are going in the right direction.
“Our midwives tell us they feel supported here and we are looking forward to welcoming new midwives to our team.”
