Neonatal Staff Nurses Emma Bamford and Charlotte Maskew are both working the early shift this Christmas day and say they’ll try and make it as special as possible for the babies in their care - as well as their families.
Both have worked for the Trust for three years.
Mum-to-be Emma has only had one Christmas Day off since qualifying in 2013 but says this year she will at least manage to have her Christmas dinner with her family!
“I don’t mind as I think of the babies and their families who are having to spend Christmas in hospital,” said the 26-year-old. “We want to make it as special as we can for them and distribute presents that are donated. It’s not easy for them and all they want is for their baby to be well enough to go home.”
Charlotte, 25, has worked the Christmas night shift for the last couple of years so she is also looking forward to having her Christmas dinner.
“We try and make things as nice as possible for the families and there’s actually a lovely atmosphere on the unit considering how difficult it is for parents,” she said. “I don’t really mind working on Christmas Day because it’s something we accept.”
