When most of us are cracking open the Quality Street or sitting down for the Doctor Who Christmas special, this real-life Junior Doctor Alfie Butt will be looking after patients on Walsall Manor Hospital’s cardiology ward.
Alfie, who trained at University of Birmingham, will work on ward 7 from 9am - 5pm on Christmas Day; checking patients are medically stable and have an effective plan of care.
“I’m really looking forward to the atmosphere on the ward,” said the 23-year-old.
“You do hear that Christmas Day can be really nice to work on as everyone is in good spirits, plus I’m sure there will be some festive treats to keep staff feeling cheery.”
Having joined the Trust in August as part of his post-graduate placement, Alfie was initially based on the paediatric ward, and now finds himself on the second of six rotations around the hospital.
And while December 25 may be a little less holly and a little more healthcare for Alfie, he plans to drive to Suffolk on Thursday to spend the run-up to Christmas with his family before driving back to Harbourne on Christmas Eve.
“Hopefully my mum will pack me some dinner in a tuppaware box to take back with me – so I’ll have a Christmas dinner in some shape or form!”
Thanks Alfie, you’re a Xmas Star!
