What we do

The Dermatology department at Walsall Manor Hospital offers a comprehensive service for the management of all problems of the skin, hair and nails. Our service is run by three Consultant Dermatologists, a Clinical Nurse Specialist and a middle grade doctor.

All our consultants run daily adult general dermatology clinics for the management of common skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne. We also offer specialist diagnosis and management of rare and severe skin disorders. Our clinics are supported by our clinical nurse specialist, phototherapy, minor surgery and patch testing.

We are a major centre for the management of skin cancer within Walsall and surrounding areas. Our skin cancer service is led by a consultant with a special interest alongside our other consultants and our cancer nurse specialist. We offer the diagnosis and management of all but the most advanced skin cancers, which we manage jointly with University Hospital Birmingham. All of our consultants operate within our dedicated skin surgery operating theatre removing skin cancers and pre-cancerous skin disease. Two of our consultants undertake advanced skin surgery procedures such as skin flaps, skin grafts and nail surgery.. We also have a close working relationship with our plastic surgery colleagues who attend the skin cancer MDT and operate on advanced skin cancers at Sandwell Hospital.

Our paediatric dermatology service offers expert management of children with dermatological problems. This service is led by a consultant with a specialist interest and supported by a nurse specialist. We offer one of the most comprehensive paediatric dermatology services outside of central Birmingham including patch testing, phototherapy and surgery for children. We also offer some tertiary level services such as the use of systemic immunosuppressants to treat severe inflammatory skin disease and beta-blockers for the treatment of infantile haemangiomas.

We have recently introduced new joint genital dermatology clinics for the management of patients with genital skin problems. Monthly joint clinics are held between a consultant dermatologist with an interest in genital disease and consultants in genito-urinary medicine and gynegology.

Please note - We are not an allergy service and do not offer a food allergy testing. We do offer patch testing for the investigation of type IV allergic contact dermatitis.
