As a Trust, we are involved in trying to move the borders of Cancer Care forward and clinical trials allow us to do this in an organized, productive manner. The research team supports a varied portfolio covering many disease sites and is integrated with all members of the multi-disciplinary team. The main role of the research team is to support patients with decision making in and around clinical trials as well as ensuring patient's rights and well-being are protected. Our team has links with numerous national clinical trials units and is monitored for quality of data and trial procedures.
Research historically has been part of the Manor Hospital for many years but became established as a separate specialty approximately ten years ago with the formation of the National Cancer Research Network. Walsall was initially part of two networks but for the last two years has sat wholly in The Pan Birmingham Cancer Research Network and maintains strong links with the network core team.
Research and development service are contracted out to Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust and they deal with all governance issues.
