A busy year of fundraising is in the diary for Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishers charity with the return of its popular Boxing match, a fashion show, a walk and many more events lined up for 2018.
The charity raises money for items above and beyond what the NHS can provide to enhance patients’ experience and success stories in 2017 include the creation of a quiet/parents room on the children’s ward at the Manor Hospital, funds raised towards a maternal (invasive) monitoring system and an appeal launched to refurbish a sensory room used by children with disabilities at Shelfield Child Development Centre.
Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who supported our charity last year. People were so generous with both their time and the donations they made.
“We’ve got a lot of events set up for 2018 and hope people will continue their support as we work together to make a difference to people using our hospital and community services here in Walsall.”
One of the highlights of the year will be the Well Wishers Boxing Match which is once again being organised with the help of Walsall IBF Super Lightweight Champion Martin Gethin, a Well Wishers charity patron. This has been set for Friday 11 May and will once again be held at Rushall Labour Club.
There will also be a fashion show and a sponsored walk alongside regular seasonal fairs, and book sales. And staff will once again take part in the Walsall Rotary Club Fun Run and Trust’s Got Talent competition.
“As well as Well Wishers events we’ve also had fundraisers of all ages supporting the charity so we’ve had donations through people doing anything from marathon running to cake bakes for us,” added Georgie.
From January to December 2017 the charity has netted £53,162.99 through its events and donations made via the Purple Hub in the Manor Hospital. Donations also come in direct to the charity and include legacies, funeral donations and wills. Local businesses also support Well Wishers through sponsorship and raffle prize donations.
