Local support group helps to prevent hair loss in cancer patients 

Walsall Breast Cancer Support Group has donated a brand new scalp cooling machine to Walsall Manor Hospital’s Chemotherapy Unit in an effort to help prevent hair loss in cancer patients.

As chemotherapy works to kill the cancer cells, the patient’s hair can suffer and start to fall out, however scalp cooling has been proven to be an effective way of preventing chemotherapy-induced hair loss and helps patients to retain a sense of confidence and ‘normality’.

International's Nurses Day - Lynne's Story 

Nursing heroes don’t just support patients to get fit and well, they also strive to help ensure those who are nearing the end of their life are able to live as well as possible with their condition, and are able to die comfortably, with dignity and with the confidence that their loved ones will be supported after their death.

And while she may not wear a cape, Community Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist Lynne Pritchard is just one hero who cares for palliative care patients across the Walsall borough - visiting patients within their homes to help with everything from pain control to emotional support for the patient and their families.
