Our community therapists worked with Jim Purvis, a patient with cerebral palsy, who sadly passed away recently. His family have given permission for his story to be shared to highlight the difference this service makes to people’s lives.

Increase in foot clinics for diabetic Walsall patients 

Diabetic foot clinics will be available every weekday morning at Walsall Manor Hospital from next week as funding is targeted to improve patients’ care and treatment.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust is able to increase its morning diabetic foot clinics from two to five from Tuesday 3 October 2017 thanks to £1.2m that it has secured through NHS England’s Diabetes Transformation Fund. The Trusts worked with colleagues in podiatry, Public Health Walsall, Walsall Clinical Commissioning Group, Diabetes UK and a Consultant from Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust to develop the successful bid.

Colleagues go the extra mile  

Around 30 colleagues joined the Walsall Rotary Club Fun Run at Walsall Arboretum yesterday (Sunday 24 September 2017) to raise money for the Trust’s Well Wishers charity; completing either a 10k run, 5k run or 3k walk.

Community therapists supporting Walsall people to thrive at home 

Hundreds of Walsall residents are being supported to live safely and independently at home following a hospital stay – or avoid hospital altogether – thanks to a dedicated team of community therapists.

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust has 25 staff working in Intermediate Care Therapies which includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and  Assistant Practitioners. They help patients who are undergoing bed-based rehabilitation at Hollybank House in Short Heath, as well as through the Trust’s community services such as Rapid Response, Frail Elderly Service, and Rehabilitation at Home.

Scientist & leukemia survivor wants you to join the stem cell donor register 

While Biomedical Scientist Natalie White knows a thing or two about blood, she never in her wildest dreams imagined she herself would need new, healthy blood cells following a leukemia diagnosis in June 2016.

A senior scientist within Walsall Healthcare’s Blood Bank, Natalie was concerned about her symptoms of constant tiredness and infection - particularly when she’d experienced good health for most of her life.
